MISSIONARIES: Why We Need Them So Much and Why They Are So Important

In this dispensation and latter-days, the duties of missionaries are of the utmost importance in the hastening of the Lord's work and ministry.  People need to live their lives in a "Christ-like" manner and prepare themselves and their families for the second coming of the Lord.  A missonary is a representative of Jesus Christ whose main mission is to spread the gospel, convert souls, increase followers and believers of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Heavenly Father gives the gift of enlightened and heightened faith, endurance to love each and every missionary who chooses to give up years serving a mission (and after their mission) giving service to the Lord.

I would like to discuss why missionaries are so important and what makes them so special in people's hearts and in the eyes of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.  I would like to discuss the missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;" (Isaiah 61:1).

The Importance of Service
In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) young men and women, seniors, couples and many others sacrifice six months to two years of their lives to provide service to the Lord.  They walk two by two from house to house spreading the gospel to all those willing to open up their hearts and minds.  Recently missionaries are using the internet to spread the gospel through blogs, chats, and other social media.  Some missionaries even perform jobs for the Church, such as landscaping, security, temple construction, tour guides and many other functions.  In the LDS Church, service is a vital part of faith.  Service to friends, family, and others who they may not even know is essential for spiritual growth, and following in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.  Charity is also essential for anyone who wishes to have Christ-like attirbutes too.

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15).

"Feed My Sheep"
In the scriptures Jesus Christ indicated to His apostles to go forth and "feed my sheep."  In this parable He indicates to spread the gospel word to all those "sheep," meaning all peoples throughout the earth.  This is what missionaries do during their mission (and afterward).  The Church states that "every member is a missionary."  This means that even after one serves a mission, they are still expected to spread the gospel to other memebers and any and all individuals who wish to listen.  The Lord referred to each and every one as part of His "fold," so missionaries can be considered to be "shepherds" who are watching over and increasing the amount of the fold.  The President, or Prophet, of the LDS Church, and the Apostles are also considered to be the shepherds of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ too.

"And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people" (Matthew 9:35).

Representatives of Jesus Christ
Since each missionary is acting in the authority of Jesus Christ, each one is upheld to standards that are associated with the Holy Bible, Book of Mormon, and other scriptures that were put here upon the earth for every one of God's children to follow.  Missionary standards may appear to be strict or stringent but they are not.  They are the commandments, doctrines, and covenants of Old Testament, New Testament, and the restored Gospel that was set once again here on earth.  If we can follow rules and regulations from federal, state, and local governments, workplace rules and other rules of society, then there should be no issues following the wishes of our Heavenly Father.

To live a Christ-like life means making changes and staying away from some things that mortal man has instituted.  Our Father loved us so much that He sacrificed His Only Begotten Son for our transgressions.  This is what each and every missionary understands, and why it is no problem to make the sacrifices that they do in service to the Lord.  "And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit of power" (1 Corinthians 2:4).

So there you have some of the many reasons that missionaries are so important to us, and to the work needed to be done to spread the gospel word.  You may ask how and why I know so much about missionary work.  I am a missionary serving the Lord in this capacity by spreading the word through the internet.  I am one of many who sacrifice their talents and time to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  So if you ever see a missionary walking down the street with their companion, give them a smile and maybe even a handshake for giving up a little part of their lives in the service of the Lord.

I would like to thank you for taking some time to read this article and gain a little knowledge of the servants of Heavenly Father.  I would also like to dedicate this article to one of my companions who is reaching the end of his mission - Elder Chubak, whom I am so proud of and honored to have served with.  He taught me so much about being a missionary and a good person.

Joseph Smith - A Prophet of God

Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus anointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

Sister Peltzer
I had believed in Joseph Smith and the account of the First Vision all my life, but I never really knew for myself that it was true until my mission. I had the opportunity to be part of our mission choir, and one song we learned was Praise to the Man. One time as we were practicing it, our choir director decided that it would sound cool if we were accompanied by the organ, which we were. I don't know why, but because of that organ accompaniment l was able to feel the spirit of that song in a completely different way. It was at that moment that I knew he really was called of God and everything he did was true.

Elder Chubak
Joseph Smith, the American Prophet, did more in his short life than most have ever accomplished in a great and long life.  Greatest of all his works was the re-establishment of the Church of Jesus Christ, containing the pure gospel as had in our Lord's own time.  Hidden truths were restored through him, and previously unknown holy scriptures were brought to the light.

It was through deep study and wondering over the Book of Mormon (one of the book of scriptures brought about through Joseph Smith) and prayer, that I came to understand the divinity of his role as Prophet.  You can too.

Millions shall know "Brother Joseph" again.

The Book of Mormon - Word of God

The Book of Mormon is a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible.  It is a record of God's dealings with ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains the fulness of the everlasting gospel.
Concerning this record the Prophet Joseph Smith said:  "I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book."  (From the Introduction of the Book of Mormon.)

Elder Vaughan
The Book of Mormon is a true testament of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  From the moment I picked up the book and set upon my lessons with the missionaries there was no doubt in my mind that this book was also a testament of my Native American Nation who was visited by Jesus Christ a long time ago.  My mother's nation, the Eastern Cherokee of North Carolina, was visited by Jesus Christ, where he instructed us in the teaching of Heavenly Father and what we needed to do to become closer to Him.  The Book of Mormon enriches my life everyday and gives me strength spiritually, emotionally and physically.  It has brought my family closer together and has given us a bond that will last for all time and eternity.

I truly believe that Joseph Smith was chosen by Heavenly Father to restore what was lost a long time ago.  He brought back the gospel in its most simplest form and returned the Priesthood so that spiritual enlightenment can once again shine in all of Heavenly Father's children.  I testify to you that our Lord and Savior lives and the Book of Mormon is our guidebook to becoming "Christ-like" and walk the Savior's way.

Elder Jensen
I think that everyone should read the Book of Mormon because it has a lot of truth in it.  If you look really closely you can see it links to the Bible perfectly.

Many people think that the Book of Mormon is a separate book from the Bible, but it teaches the exact same things.  Like in the story of Noah and the ark, Noah is commanded by the Lord to build an ark and to take 2 of each animal with him.  He was faithful to the Lord and when the flood came he was prepared, and sailed to the land promised to him.  The story of Nephi in the Book of Mormon teaches the same principles.  Like Noah, the Lord asked Nephi to go into the wilderness because the city of Jerusalem was going to be destroyed.  They needed to flee as fast as they could and get out of Jerusalem, and were led to their own promised land.

What I am trying to say is that the Book of Mormon and Bible have the same exact lessons.  I ure you to read both and see what connections you can find for yourself.

I can say for myself that everytime I pick up a Book of Mormon I feel better about my life, and life just seems like it is easier to deal with.  I feel blessed for reading it.

Elder Chubak

Without a doubt the Book of Mormon has inspired me and influenced me for good more so than any other book I've read.  Every page reflects the love of God for all of us, and it teaches us how to live so that we can return to Him.  The blessings that I have received from this book are many.  It brings peace, comfort, assistance, knowledge and love, among other things.

The prophet Moroni promised that if we pray, truly wanting to know the truth, will come to know the beauty of the Book of Mormon, that it is the word of God.  I have done so and can declare that the Book of Mormon contains the pure gospel of Jesus Christ, coupling perfectly with the Holy Bible, and is exactly what it purports to be:  a book sent from God specifically for us to use in our lives.

Sister Peltzer
I am so thankful we have this wonderful testimony of Jesus Christ. Whenever I read it I feel the Spirit and it lifts and inspires me. And being a missionary, I have seen it touch other people's lives as well. That feeling can't be described, it's so wonderful.

We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true.  Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost.  (From the Introduction of the Book of Mormon.)
